Gynecomastia

External appearance is important for men. It is called gynecomastia in the name of the medical language of the involuntary growth of the breast area of men as in women. Although there are no pathological findings and the cause is unknown, growth in the breasts may be observed. The diagnosis of the vast majority of men who apply for this disease; obesity and irregular nutrition.
Gynecomastia sometimes affects a person’s psychology negatively. Mental problems such as lack of self-confidence, introversion, breaking away from social life, feeling insufficient can be observed in males with larger breasts.
Male breasts consist of two types of tissue. One of these, fatty tissue forms, makes up almost the entire breast in men. There is also a tissue that we call the gland tissue, ie the mammary gland tissue. This tissue is rare in men. In women, especially in the young maiden breast tissue is almost made up all of the breast. This tissue grows and develops with pregnancy, with hormonal effects. However, since these features are not present in men, gland tissue is very rare in normal conditions.
In men, especially in adolescents, estrogen hormone is secreted in women as in men, there may be some growth in breast tissue as in women. This condition is temporary and balanced by testosterone. Growth sensitivity is temporary, and most men stop or stop growing. If growth continues, breast size is called gynecomastia. And also;
  • Rapid Weight Gain
  • Unproperly used drugs for hormonel treatments or body-building
  • Hormonel disorders
  • Alcohol and smoking
  • Genetical Factors
can cause Gynecomastia.

Before Gynecomastia Surgery

Preoperative physical examination is essential. The physician and the patient come together to decide what method is suitable for the patient and the patient’s expectations.
Stop smoking and alcohol at least 3 weeks in order to improve the quality of the recovery period and not experience bleeding problems.
They should report the drugs they use and should stop using if they are inappropriate.
Complete laboratory tests.
Pre-operative photography is important for comparing postoperative status.
Patients with hypersensitivity to anesthetic agents should always report to their physician.

Gynecomastia Treatment Methods

Gynecomastia treatment of breast growth in men is performed surgically. The adolescence period is expected to be completed for men to perform surgery. If there is gynecomastia due to growth in adolescence, it is usually gynecomastia due to gland (mammary gland) growth. Growth is taken out with a small incision made from the end region of the breast.
If the cause of gynecomastia is overweight, there is an increase in fat tissue. This increased fat tissue is surgically removed or the liposuction method is taken out of the fats.
If a skin excess occurs in the area during the procedure, it is removed with a certain amount of fat in the skin.

After Gynecomastia Surgery

After the gynecomastia operation, the breast completely descends. There is no need for re-shrinking surgery for breasts that are growing for many reasons. However, if one of the causes of gynecomastia is exposed to rapid weight gain, breast growth may occur again.
A corset is used for about 1 month in order to prevent the accumulation of blood and other fluids and to allow the skin to stick to the tissue more quickly as the tissue will be removed from this area. If surgery is performed under general anesthesia, there is 1-day hospital stay. Patients undergoing local anesthesia may be discharged on the same day. Post-operative pain can be easily relieved with pain relief drugs by your doctor.
